Ilan Ossendryver has been a photojournalist for over 35 years and has covered international news events such as the Israeli- Palestinian Conflict, the Gulf War, War in Lebanon, The Israeli Jordanian Peace agreement, the assassination of Yitzchak Rabin.  He photographed at Hosni Mubarak's palace in Cairo where the late Yitzhak Rabin met Yasser Arafat for the first time.  

 

He also documented life under Apartheid and the release of Nelson Mandela, amongst many other important historical events. He was one of the official photographers during the Ethiopian airlifts, Operation Solomon as well as Operation Moses, for the Jewish Agency.
He also documented the arrival in Israel of the Russian Jewry.


He has been the official photographer to Michael Jackson during his visit to Israel as well as FW De Klerk.  
He has covered two American presidents, seven Israeli prime ministers, has photographed may well known people from Leonard Bernstein, Pavarotti, Nelson Mandela to Gorbachev. 


He was the resident photographer of the San Francisco Chronicle in Israel and worked for a major news agency in Israel.
His photographs have appeared in many international newspapers such as The New York Times, International Herald Tribune, Forbes, Der Spiegel, South China Morning Post, The Times of London, The Jerusalem Post, Haaretz, Yedioth Acharanot, Maariv, The Star of Johannesburg and many more as well as magazines.


Ilan is currently the resident photographer of the Johannesburg-based South African Jewish Report.
He has vast experience with industrial, corporate and public relations photography as well as documenting social issues. Some of his clients have been Hebrew University, Tel Aviv University, Israel Railway, Israel Electrical Company, Uber, Microsoft, Nasdaq, Hilton Hotels, Southern Sun Hotels, Intel, Motorola, Boeing, Airbus and many more.

Social Responsibility
Ilan conducts photographic trips into Soweto where his guests from all over the world get involved in the local community. Amongst his many projects, he helps local communities with their vegetable gardens, supports a nursery school, soccer team and local musicians and artists.

South Africa during the Apartheid era: Short Stories & Images by Ilan Ossendryver

The short stories by South African photojournalist Ilan Ossendryver are about the hardships and cruelty that Black South Africans had to endure under the Apartheid regime of South Africa. The book is illustrated with over 80 photographs of life in South Africa under Apartheid. 

These short stories have been used to compare the writings of the US Civil Rights Movement to that of the Apartheid era. They have also been used around the world such as in Italy, the Philippines, Botswana and others for teaching English.
